Here's a number worth sitting with. EA Play costs $39.99 for a full year, or $5.99 a month. For that you get unlimited access to what EA calls the Play List — currently College Football 26, Madden NFL 26, NHL 26, F1 25 and a good deal more. On PlayStation you can also pull down EA Sports FC 26 and PGA Tour, which is how a single checkout turns into six sports games. Every one of them launched at $60 or higher. This lives on a site about stretching a family budget for a simple reason: measured against almost anything else you can do with a family for money, it isn't close.

Two things to check before you buy, both below: it's already free if you have Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass, and the standard tier carries last year's editions, not the newest release.
Put the console subscription next to the alternatives. This is the whole case, and it doesn't require you to care about sports:

One family movie night costs more than the entire year of EA Play. That's the comparison that matters on a budget site — not "is this cheap for gamers," but "what else does forty dollars buy a family," and the answer is: a lot less.

This is the part most coverage buries, and it will save some readers the entire forty dollars. EA Play is already included, at no extra cost, with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. If you subscribe to either one, you already have it — the six games, the trials, the discount, all of it. The $39.99 standalone price is for PlayStation and standalone PC users. Check your existing subscriptions before you check out.
💡 30-second check: open your console's subscriptions screen. If it lists Game Pass Ultimate (Xbox) or PC Game Pass, EA Play is bundled in — don't pay again. If it doesn't, and you're on PlayStation or standalone PC, $39.99/year is the number.
Madden NFL 27 and College Football 27 arrive in August — EA's own Madden NFL 27 rewards schedule begins August 14, 2026. So over the next few weeks a lot of households face the same question: pay $70+ for the brand-new edition, or pay $39.99 and get last year's version of six different games. If you were going to buy one new sports title this year, the subscription costs less than that single game and throws in five more. If you were going to buy two, it isn't a discussion. And if you genuinely want the newest one, the 10-hour trial lets you play it before deciding — a better test than any review.
Four of them, because a deal this good always has terms:
- You're renting, not buying. Stop paying and access ends — no library left behind. For a game you'll play for two months, fine. For one a kid will come back to in three years, buying it outright may be the better call.
- Last year's games have last year's rosters. Madden 26 doesn't have this season's trades or rookies. For franchise and career modes that matters less than you'd think; for anyone who wants current rosters, it matters a lot.
- Online populations shrink when the sequel lands. Once Madden 27 ships, matchmaking for Madden 26 thins out. Single-player and couch co-op are unaffected; competitive online play degrades.
- Games rotate out of the Play List. What's available today isn't guaranteed in eight months. Check the current list rather than trusting any article — including this one.
EA ran a promotion earlier this year offering new members a full year for $19.99, which ended February 17, 2026. The lesson isn't that you missed it — it's that EA discounts this subscription periodically, usually around big sports moments. If you're not in a hurry, watching for the next promo can cut the price in half again. If you want to play before Madden 27 lands, $39.99 is already the best per-game number on this page.
