A family homemade-Mexican spot on East Alisal, single location. Prices read on its own website menu: carne asada street tacos are 3.60 each and soft drinks 2.60, so two get four tacos plus two sodas for 19.60, or just four tacos for 14.40.
Salinas Pizza
Cheese Pizza $7.99 — Two Eat for $13.48
An independent neighborhood pizzeria on Acosta Plaza — the page's first pizza. Read on its own Slice page: a whole cheese or pepperoni pizza is 7.99 and breadsticks are 5.49, so two share a pie plus breadsticks for 13.48, or grab two whole pizzas for 15.98.

A simple counter-service spot that locals will tell you — with a straight face — changed their life via a tortilla. The housemade flour tortillas are the whole game: pillowy, fresh off the comal, wrapped around carne asada or chile verde into burritos people drive across the county for. Don't sleep on the tortas, and you can grab tamales by the half-dozen or dozen. Two eat for around $16.

A Salinas taco-wagon institution — the family runs several wagons plus a truck on Kern Street — turning out mesquite-kissed asada al carbón and plump shrimp tacos on fresh tortillas. Quick, cheap, and exactly the street-taco fix you want. Tacos run a couple bucks; a quesadilla or burrito stretches it further. Two eat for around $15.

Bold, made-with-skill cooking that ranges from tacos de tripa to slow-stewed tacos rojos de birria con queso with consommé for dipping. The super shrimp taco and tostada de ceviche bring the coast in, and the sizzling molcajetes and alambres are built for sharing. Easy online ordering if you'd rather skip the line. Oaxacan Tlayudas, Mole & Handmade Tortillas
A genuine surprise in the Salad Bowl — home cooking from Oaxaca and Hidalgo done restaurant-style, with antojitos, pastes and molotes estilo Hidalgo alongside Oaxacan tlayudas piled with squash blossoms, mushrooms and nopales on a crisp, pizza-like shell. The mole tamale alone is worth the trip, and there's a vegan tlayuda that converts skeptics. Share a tlayuda; two eat for around $20.

A no-frills neighborhood taquería that Salinas natives will defend to the end, especially for the parts other places skimp on — buche and tripas with real crackle and flavor. Hidden Breakfast Burritos & Chilaquiles
Tucked between two buildings down a short hallway — follow your nose and the smiling faces. It's a homemade-everything operation where the green-chile breakfast chilaquiles (chilaquiles, beans, two eggs your way, two corn tortillas) are the cult order, and the burritos hold up all day. Cheap, filling, and worth the little hunt to find it. Two eat for around $14.

Salinas's Filipino community goes back generations, and this cozy E Laurel spot cooks like somebody's living room — no fixed menu, just whatever's fresh that day: fall-apart pork adobo, crisp fry-to-order lumpia, pancit, pork belly and dinuguan, with leche flan or coconut ice cream to finish. Portions are huge and the prices are fair. Share a couple of plates; two eat for around $20.

A cheesesteak counter that takes the sandwich seriously — properly griddled, loaded Phillys and a tray of Nashville-hot fries that regulars rave about, run by a crew that clearly enjoys feeding people. Not the cuisine you expect in the Salad Bowl, which is half the fun. Two eat for around $18.
