Tacos Inside a Folk-Art Wonderland
Riverside's most unforgettable meal: a casual Mexican kitchen on Mission Inn Avenue that the Sánchez family has wrapped in an entire block of recycled-object folk art — towers, archways and a Christmas tree built from beer bottles. The food keeps pace with the spectacle: street tacos, burritos, shrimp tacos and a loaded salsa bar, plus aguas frescas. Eat, then wander the sculpture garden. Two eat for around $18.

2 Brothers Pizza
Family-Made, Scratch-Dough Pizza
A family-owned La Sierra pizzeria making its dough and sauce from scratch, with signature pies (the hot-honey BEE-STING, the Rockin' Riverside), calzones, salads and an Oreo dessert pizza. Per their own menu a 14-inch large runs $17.99 — split one between two and you're set, root-beer floats optional. Two eat for around $18.

Rico's Tacos El Primo on University Ave — adobada carved to order on handmade tortillas. Tacos run about $3.25, so five or six for two people lands around $16–20. Cash is fastest.

A beloved family-run Riverside diner going since 1992 — homemade biscuits and gravy, towering omelets, stacks of pancakes and breakfast served all day, plus the Country Benedict (a biscuit under a sausage patty, egg and white country gravy) for the truly hungry. Portions are huge and prices stay reasonable: off the cafe's own menu, the Biscuits 'n Gravy platter ($8.49) plus a Just-3-Eggs plate ($11.49) reads $19.98, or two Continental Breakfasts ($9.89 each) come to $19.78. The meat-and-eggs plates run $14.49–16.49, so skip those if you're holding to $20.

CPK — the chain that invented the BBQ chicken pizza in 1985 — prices like the sit-down restaurant it is: two people each ordering a main start at $33.58. The honest under-$20 route is to split. Every pizza is a 6-slice thin crust, and the cheapest, the Margherita, reads $17.69 at the 3540 Riverside Plaza store on CPK's own online ordering, August 2026 — $8.85 a head when two people share one. The Traditional Cheese is $18.69 and the Mac 'N' Cheese, the cheapest main plate at $16.79, splits the same way. With actual kids along the math turns kind: every CPKids pizza and pasta entrée is $8.49. The traps are ordering like two separate customers and the specialty list — pizzas beyond the basic three start at $19.69, and drinks push even a split pizza to the line, so it's a water-and-share play. CPK runs exactly three price tiers nationally — $16.69 to $18.69 for the same Margherita — so confirm at yours; the dine-in menu can read slightly different from the ordering site.

One 11" Pizza Split Two Ways — $15.84, Unlimited Toppings
MOD fast-fires an 11-inch build-your-own pizza in about three minutes, and the model is one price however many of the 40-plus toppings go on it — the chain's own words are "the price always stays the same." The 11-inch Regular with unlimited toppings reads $15.84 at the 3444 Arlington Ave store on MOD's own ordering system, August 2026 — $7.92 a head when two people split it, which is the cheapest honest way through the door. MOD sizes a salad it labels "Large (Feeds 2)" outright at $17.09, so one order is dinner for both of you without touching the pizza menu. Want your own pie each? Two 6-inch minis with cheese run $18.18. Worth knowing before you go: your first purchase as a MOD Rewards member earns a free MOD-size pizza or salad, which makes round one genuinely two for the price of one. The trap is drinks — two 16 oz fountains add $7.18 and put the loaded 11-inch at $23.02, past the line, so drink water or drop to the $12.84 cheese build. MOD prices by store, so confirm at yours — the spread across the cities we checked runs $11.89 to $16.59 for the same pizza.
