Best Cheap Eats in Mesa
Two People, Under $20

🏜️ Mesa  ·  19 verified deals  ·  Updated August 2026

Mesa is Arizona’s third-largest city — bigger than Atlanta, Miami or Minneapolis — and for years its best cheap meals got filed under “Phoenix.” No more. The Asian District along Dobson Road, anchored by Mekong Plaza, is the deepest cheap-eats cluster in the East Valley: a dumpling shop, a banh mi counter, a food-hall wok and a dim sum hall, all with real posted prices. Downtown Main Street answers with empanadas, Venezuelan arepas, Neapolitan pizza and a lunch counter running since 1996. Every price on this page was read from the restaurant’s own menu or ordering system in July 2026, and every card sits inside Mesa city limits. The Valley summer rule applies here too: hours shrink May through September, so check before you drive.

MOD Pizza

One 11" Pizza Split Two Ways — $14.19, Unlimited Toppings

MOD fast-fires an 11-inch build-your-own pizza in about three minutes, and the model is one price however many of the 40-plus toppings go on it — the chain's own words are "the price always stays the same." The 11-inch MOD-size with unlimited toppings reads $14.19 at the 1804 S Signal Butte Rd store on MOD's own ordering system, August 2026 — $7.10 a head when two people split it, which is the cheapest honest way through the door. MOD sizes a salad it labels "Mega (Feeds 2)" outright at $15.44, so one order is dinner for both of you without touching the pizza menu. Want your own pie each? Two 6-inch minis with cheese run $14.38. Worth knowing before you go: your first purchase as a MOD Rewards member earns a free MOD-size pizza or salad, which makes round one genuinely two for the price of one. The trap is drinks — two 16 oz fountains add $6.78 and put the loaded 11-inch at $20.97, past the line, so drink water or drop to the $10.99 cheese build. MOD prices by store, so confirm at yours — the spread across the cities we checked runs $11.89 to $16.59 for the same pizza.

🧾 Still True? What We Couldn't Card, and Why

This page launched in July 2026 from a bench of thirty-plus Mesa leads, every published price read from a source the restaurant itself controls. What didn't make it, and why: Pete's Fish & Chips — the 1947 institution at Main & Mesa Dr is open and cash-only, but its own site posts no menu prices at all (the only numbers on the domain are the 35¢ fish and chips of 1947), so the city's oldest cheap meal can't be carded until someone photographs the menu board; Salvadoreño Restaurant on Southern — the pupusas are almost certainly under the line (their own bulk deals imply ~$3–3.50 each) but the itemized prices live behind an ordering page we couldn't read; eegee's on Crismon — same story, the Tucson-born chain publishes no prices and its ordering backend wouldn't answer; Thai Spices and Bún Bò Huế in Mekong Plaza — owner ordering exists for both but was unreadable, so they sit in the recheck queue; Com Tam Thuan Kieu, the H Mart food court vendors and Wholly Grill — no owner-posted prices exist. Verified but over the line: Worth Takeaway (excellent sandwiches, but the cheapest two-sandwich order is $24 on its own April 2026 menu) and unPhogettable ($15 mains plus an 18% dine-in service fee stated on its own menu). Closed: Nan Zhou Hand Drawn Noodle (January 2026 — the owners retired) and Queen's Pizzeria downtown. Mekong Plaza's coming-soon row (Meet Fresh, Udon Shin, bb.q Chicken, Haidilao) gets checked when the doors open.
