Top Deck Restaurant
Steak & Eggs $9.99 at a Downtown Casino Diner
An old-school diner on the top floor of Club Cal Neva that has quietly kept downtown Reno fed on the cheap for decades. The local-legend steak and eggs is still just $9.99 (there’s a $7.77 breakfast deal on the board too), so two people can each get a full plate and land right around $20. Generous portions, Keno runners, zero pretense — served all day.
Taqueria La Michoacana
24-Hour Street Tacos & Big Burritos
A round-the-clock Reno taquería turning out proper street tacos — asada, al pastor, carnitas, lengua, buche — on fresh tortillas, plus burritos so big regulars split them. Tacos run a few dollars each and a loaded burrito lands under ten, so two people can build a spread of tacos or share burritos and eat for well under $20, any hour of the day or night.
Gold ’N Silver Inn
Reno’s 1956 Diner — Cheap Breakfast Anytime
Reno’s oldest casual diner, on old Highway 40 since 1956 and a Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives favorite. The all-day breakfast is the move for two under $20: a stack of pancakes, biscuits and gravy, or a big plate of eggs with those famous hash browns and coffee keeps the tab low. Hearty portions, counter stools and booths, and that timeless roadside-diner feel.
Coney Island Dogs & Burgers
Sabrett Dogs & Coney Chili — Best Price in Town
A little Warren Way counter serving natural-casing Sabrett all-beef franks under house-made Coney chili, plus Chicago-style dogs and burgers that regulars call the best price in town. Dogs run just a few dollars each, so two people can load up on dogs and fries and barely dent a twenty. Don’t skip the square Long Island potato knish.
Pho 777
Downtown Pho — Big Bowls Around $10
A simple, centrally located downtown Vietnamese spot that locals rate for excellent value: a big bowl of beef pho runs about ten dollars, with rice-noodle bowls, pad Thai and grilled-pork banh mi rounding out the menu. Two people can each get a steaming bowl, or split a pho and a banh mi, and eat for around $20 or less. Fast, friendly and no frills.
Beefy’s
Midtown Burger Institution in a 1947 Diner
A tiny Midtown burger institution wedged into a preserved 1947 Valentine diner, grinding fresh beef from the butcher next door into two dozen burgers, plus quarter-pound dogs, wings and shakes. A classic burger runs around ten to twelve dollars and the dogs less, so two can keep it under $20 with the basics (the loaded specialty burgers climb higher). Cozy, divey and beloved.
Truckee Bagel Company
Reno’s Best Bagels Since 1994 — Cheap Breakfast Sandwiches
A local institution baking true New York-style bagels from scratch since 1994 — 20 varieties, 15 house cream cheeses, and breakfast sandwiches (egg and cheese on any bagel, or build your own) served all day. Two people can grab bagel breakfast sandwiches and coffee for well under $20. The South Reno shop on Wedge Parkway is the one to hit.
Soup Dumpling’s House
Handmade Soup Dumplings at Reno Public Market
The first place in Northern Nevada doing proper Shanghai-style xiao long bao — pork, pork-and-crab, beef or veggie soup dumplings, folded and steamed to order while you watch, at a stall inside the buzzy Reno Public Market food hall. An order runs around ten to twelve dollars, so two can share a couple of baskets for right about $20. Grab a seat in the market and go.
Süp
Scratch-Made Soups & Sandwiches From $6.99
A beloved Midtown fast-casual landmark since 2007, making 6–8 soups a day from scratch alongside creative salads and sandwiches. Sandwiches run from a $6.99 grilled cheese to a $9.99 BBQ chicken or $10.99 steak baguette, so two people eat for around $15–20 — and combos come with soup, a surprise salad and a little cookie. Grab the patio in the heart of Midtown.
Pizano’s Pizza
Downtown Pizza by the Slice — Big Slices, Open Late
A downtown mom-and-pop turning out big, thin-crust New York-style slices with daily-mixed dough, a block off the Riverwalk next to the movie theater. Grab a slice (or two, or three) without committing to a whole pie — regular slices are a few dollars, and happy hour (3–6 daily) drops them to $3.25 — so two can eat for well under $20. Open till midnight on weekends.
Chinese Duck House
Cantonese Roast Duck & Noodle Soup — Cheap & Beloved
An old-school family-run Cantonese joint across from the Peppermill, doing some of the best BBQ roast duck in Reno for 25-plus years, plus duck noodle soup, won ton, beef-brisket rice noodles and pan-fried chow mein. It’s a cash-friendly, no-frills room (no A/C, so takeout in summer), and reviewers swear by the cheap, generous portions — two can share roast-duck noodles for right around $20.
