Their own menu PDF prices specialty dogs at $4.00–5.50 (most $4.95) and tots or fries at $3.95: two dogs plus tots to share is $13.85, three dogs with fries is $18.80, and even the priciest possible build tops out at $17.80 for two dogs each. Buckeye Donuts
24-Hour Donuts & Gyros for Two
An Ohio State campus tradition since 1969 — “open always, closed never,” straight from their own site, and they mean it. Hand-cut donuts, hot breakfast sandwiches, and made-to-order gyros around the clock. The catch for budget math: they don't post prices anywhere online, so two loading up on donuts and coffee is almost certainly well under $20 — but call or check the counter before counting on it.
Katalina's
Pancake Balls to Share — call for prices
The Harrison West cafe that put Columbus pancake balls on the map (and on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives) — cornbread-fluffy spheres filled with Nutella or dulce de leche. Fair warning: the menu Katalina's publishes is deliberately price-free — the PDF is literally titled the “no-price” menu — so no site (including this one) can quote you today's number. An order has run around $16 and shares well for two; call before you go. Three locations, breakfast and lunch only.
Tommy's Diner
Diner Breakfast for Two · All Gyros $14
A Franklinton classic since 1989 — chrome-and-vinyl, Greek-owned, proudly old-school, with hearty omelettes, home fries, and what regulars call the best pancakes in Columbus. Their own menu page carries exactly one price — “all gyros $14.00” — and keeps the rest offline, so breakfast should be diner-cheap for two but call (614) 224-2422 for current numbers.
Los Guachos Taqueria
Six Tacos al Pastor — $18 · Monday 2x1 BOGO
A taco-truck-turned-taqueria serving what many call the city's best tacos al pastor — spit-roasted pork shaved with pineapple. Their own menu prices the Original Taco Al Pastor at $3.00 and the famous gringas at $6.00: six pastor tacos or two gringas plus two tacos is $18 flat. The real move is Monday — the “2X1” pastor-taco BOGO is posted verbatim on their own specials page, so six tacos land around $9 — and Wednesday gringas go half price. Sawmill runs to midnight or later.
Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams
Two Scoops — about $13–14
Columbus's own artisan ice cream, started by Jeni Britton Bauer at the North Market in 2002 and now beloved nationwide — buttercream-smooth scoops in inventive flavors like Brambleberry Crisp. Scoop prices are set per shop and not published online — reports put a single scoop around $6.50–7, so figure roughly $13–14 for two. Not cheap for ice cream, but it can't plausibly break a twenty. Six shops around town.
Massey's Pizza
12-Inch Thin Crust to Share — $17.99
Columbus pizza since 1949 — Massey's introduced the square “party cut” that now defines Columbus-style pizza, on a thin, crispy, hearth-baked crust loaded edge to edge. Their own menu (Clintonville) prices a one-topping thin crust at $9.99 for the 8-inch, $17.99 for the 12-inch, $20.99 for the 14-inch — sizes run 8/12/14, so the shareable middle size is the $17.99 play; go specialty or 14-inch and you're just over the line at $20.99.
Fox in the Snow Cafe
Pastries + Drip Coffee for Two — $16.50–19.50
A modern Italian Village bakery (since 2014) famous for its souffléd egg sandwich, gooey cinnamon rolls, and hand-poured coffee in a renovated garage. Do the math before you order two of the famous sandwich: their 2025 menu prices it at $11.00, so a pair is $22 — over the line. The plays that work: one egg sandwich plus two drip coffees ($3.25 each) is $17.50, or two pastries ($4.25–6.50) with two drips runs $16.50–19.50.
Hoyo's Kitchen
Veggie Bowl + Sambusa — $19
Family-run Somali fast-casual at the North Market — build-your-own bowls of basmati or spicy rice, plus flaky sambusas, in the city with the country's second-largest Somali community. Their own menu now prices bowls at $15–16 (veggie $15, chicken or beef suqaar $16; mango $18, goat $20) and sambusas at $4. The under-$20 play is one veggie bowl plus a sambusa to share at $19 even — a meat bowl with sambusa lands exactly at $20, and a second sambusa pushes you over. Also in Dublin.
Eating cheap in Columbus: the North Market downtown is a one-stop value hub — Jeni's, Hoyo's, and more under one roof. Around Ohio State, Buckeye Donuts runs 24/7 and Dirty Frank's slings late-night dogs. Several spots are daytime-only (Tommy's, Fox in the Snow, and Katalina's all close by 3pm), and the famous pancake balls and Massey's pizza are big enough to split — order to share and two stay under $20.

California Pizza Kitchen
One Margherita Pizza Split Two Ways · $16.69
CPK — the chain that invented the BBQ chicken pizza in 1985 — prices like the sit-down restaurant it is: two people each ordering a main start at $33.58. The honest under-$20 route is to split. Every pizza is a 6-slice thin crust, and the cheapest, the Margherita, reads $16.69 at the 1500 Polaris Pkwy. store on CPK's own online ordering, August 2026 — $8.35 a head when two people share one. The Traditional Cheese is $17.19 and the Mac 'N' Cheese, the cheapest main plate at $16.79, splits the same way. With actual kids along the math turns kind: every CPKids pizza and pasta entrée is $8.49. The traps are ordering like two separate customers and the specialty list — pizzas beyond the basic three start at $19.69, and drinks push even a split pizza to the line, so it's a water-and-share play. CPK runs exactly three price tiers nationally — $16.69 to $18.69 for the same Margherita — so confirm at yours; the dine-in menu can read slightly different from the ordering site.
Jet's Pizza

The Detroit-style original — Sterling Heights, Michigan, 1978, the chain that made the buttery, caramel-crusted square a national thing — runs three stores inside Columbus proper (Sancus Blvd, W 5th Ave, Convention Center) with about 15 more around the outerbelt. The deal we can pin to a Columbus store: the W 5th Ave store's own page posts 15% off menu-priced pizza when you text your order in. The chain's $5 Off Any Specialty Pizzas online deal is the bigger lever — it dropped a $22.87 medium All Meaty to $17.87 on our August 2026 read, but that read was at the chain's Denver store, and Jet's prices per store — so run the cart at your Columbus store before counting on the number. A medium is eight big slices, plenty for two.

Jacksonville's biggest food export reaches here too: founded in 1994 by two firefighter brothers, now 1,200+ stores — and its own locator lists about 5 inside Columbus. The $5 Firehouse Snackers (BLT, Cordon Bleu, Sweet & Spicy Ham, Turkey Jalapeño half-subs) fed two for $10.75 all-in, and two small 4-inch Hook & Ladders ran $12.78 — but those are reads from the chain's own ordering system at its Jacksonville home store, not a Columbus one, and the 8-inch mediums most people order run $10-plus. Run the app cart at your store before you go.
White Castle
Sliders À La Carte · Breakfast Combos — Two Under $20
Hometown royalty — White Castle has been headquartered in Columbus since 1934 and keeps roughly ten castles in the city. Our July 2026 cart read at the chain's Las Vegas castle sets the pattern: Original Sliders $1.39 à la carte — ten built one by one is $13.90, cheaper than the bundled Shareable Meal unless you want its fries and drinks — the Breakfast Bun combo $7.97 (two breakfasts $15.94), and the Crispy Chicken Combo $9.56 (two for $19.12), while beef combos run past the line. That's a Vegas read, not a Columbus one — Ohio castles have historically priced lower, so the math likely gets friendlier here, but confirm on your castle's menu in the app.
Skyline Chili
Shared 3-Way + Coneys — around $20 · call for prices
Cincinnati's chili-over-spaghetti empire holds the Columbus area down with a South High St parlor in the city plus Polaris, Hilliard, Gahanna, Dublin, and Pickerington. Skyline's own menu posts no prices online, so treat these as estimates: a regular 3-Way generally runs about $8–10 and cheese coneys $4–5 — share a 3-Way and add a coney each to stay under $20; two full 3-Way plates land right at the line. Call your store to confirm.
