🍕 Chain Reality Check — California Pizza Kitchen

California Pizza Kitchen: Can Two Eat
for Under $20?

Barely — and only if you split. CPK prices like the sit-down restaurant it is: two people each ordering a main start at $33.58. But every store sells a 6-slice Margherita at $16.69, $17.69 or $18.69 — exactly three price tiers across the whole country — so one pizza shared two ways is $8.35 to $9.35 a head, under the line everywhere. It's a water-and-share play, and this page is the honest version of it.

✓ Reality-checked August 2026 · every price read from CPK's own online ordering system (order.cpk.com), all 107 US stores individually · online-ordering prices; the dine-in menu can read slightly different, so treat these as the number at the store we priced.
🧮 The Short Answer

The Verdict: Split One Pizza, or Don't Come for the Math

CPK opened in Beverly Hills in 1985 and invented the dish half of fast-casual now copies: the Original BBQ Chicken Pizza. Forty years on it's a different company — a 2020 Chapter 11 shrank the footprint to 107 US stores on its own ordering system across 24 states, heavily mall-anchored, with zero stores left in Texas and none in Washington state. What didn't change is the positioning: this is a sit-down casual chain, priced like one.

The two-under-$20 math accordingly has exactly one honest shape. Every CPK pizza is a 6-slice thin crust sold as an individual entrée, and the cheapest — the Margherita — runs $16.69 / $17.69 / $18.69 in the chain's three national price tiers (we read every store; there is no fourth number). Split one and two people eat for $8.35 to $9.35 a head. The Mac 'N' Cheese at $16.79 to $17.79 is the cheapest main plate and splits the same way. Order like two separate customers and it's over immediately: the cheapest pair of mains is $33.58.

The Order2026 PriceFor TwoUnder $20?
One 6-slice Margherita — split $16.69 to $18.69 $8.35–$9.35 a head, three slices each ✓ 25/25 cities pre-tax
One Mac 'N' Cheese — split $16.79 to $17.79 The cheapest main plate on the menu ✓ 25/25 cities
Two CPKids entrées (for actual kids) $16.98 to $17.98 Every kids pizza and pasta is one price ✓ 25/25 cities
One Traditional Cheese — split $17.19 to $19.19 The second-cheapest pie ± 25/25 cities pre-tax
Two cheapest mains, one each $33.58 to $35.58 The order most tables default to ✗ 0/25 cities
Two specialty pizzas, one each $39.38 to $41.38+ The famous BBQ Chicken, ×2 ✗ 0/25 cities

Two costs the table doesn't show. Tax: the split Margherita survives even Virginia Beach's 12% meals tax ($17.69 → $19.81 all-in) and Honolulu's 4.71% ($18.69 → $19.57) — the one place it tips over is the Las Vegas Fashion Show store, where the top-tier pie plus Nevada's 8.375% lands at $20.26. Drinks: two fountain drinks add roughly $8 and break every build on this page, so it's water or it isn't under twenty.

🧟 Still True?

Things You'll Read About CPK That We Couldn't Verify — or That Aren't True

"CPK happy hour: $9 pizza and a beer, 3–6pm"

Every deals blog prints some version of this. We could not read it off CPK's own site, and the same posts that list it say mall locations are excluded — which describes most of the 33 stores in our covered cities (Ala Moana, Fashion Show, Lenox, Millenia, International Plaza, the Prudential…). Until CPK's own site confirms it for your store, treat the happy hour as a rumor and the menu-price split as the plan.

"$10 pizzas on Mondays and Tuesdays"

Reported by third-party deal sites as a limited-time promo. It does not appear anywhere on the ordering menus we read — all 107 of them — so if it exists it's dine-in, app-only, or already over. Check the CPK app before you count on it; don't build the trip around it.

"Get Take & Bake — it's cheaper"

It isn't. CPK's Take & Bake pizzas — the same pies, sold cold for your own oven — cost exactly the same as the hot ones, tier for tier, on the chain's own ordering menu. Take & Bake is a convenience play, not a value play.

"CPK pizzas run $10 to $18"

That's the number third-party menu sites keep republishing, and it's stale. In August 2026 the real spread for the cheapest pizza on the menu is exactly one dollar top to bottom: $16.69 / $17.69 / $18.69, three national tiers, no exceptions in 107 stores. Specialty pies run $19.69–$22.19.

"There's a CPK in every big city"

Not since the 2020 bankruptcy. There are no CPK stores left in Texas at all, none in Washington state, and none inside the city limits of Chicago, Detroit, Denver, St. Louis, Washington DC, Philadelphia, Nashville, Phoenix or Miami — those markets are suburb-only or gone entirely. The 25 cities below are the ones on this site with a store actually inside the line.

📍 Where We've Confirmed It

CPK in 25 Cities on This Site

We pulled all 107 US stores from CPK's own ordering system in August 2026 and kept only the ones inside the city limits of a city this site covers — 33 stores across 25 cities. No suburbs: the "Richmond" store that's really Short Pump in Henrico County didn't make this list, and neither did the six Chicago-suburb stores. One that did, with an asterisk you should know about: New York's store sits in Glendale — the Glendale neighborhood of Queens, inside the city. The price after each city is its Margherita tier, read off that store's own ordering menu.

Accuracy notes. Same-name traps: CPK's "Huntington Station, NY" store is Long Island, not our Huntington, West Virginia; its Glendale, Wisconsin store is not the Queens Glendale above. Las Vegas honesty: all three stores carry Las Vegas addresses in CPK's own system, but Fashion Show and Town Square sit on unincorporated Strip land like most Strip businesses — and Fashion Show is the one store in the country where the split-Margherita play breaks $20 once tax lands. Verified absences, so nobody re-checks them: no stores anywhere in Texas, none in Washington state, and none inside city-proper Chicago, Detroit, Denver, St. Louis, DC, Philadelphia, Nashville, New Orleans, Phoenix, Mesa, Tempe, Miami, San Jose, Oakland or Seattle.

❓ Quick Answers

California Pizza Kitchen Deal FAQ

How much is a pizza at California Pizza Kitchen in 2026?
The cheapest — the 6-slice Margherita — is $16.69, $17.69 or $18.69 depending on the store: CPK runs exactly three price tiers nationally, and we verified that store by store across all 107 US stores on the chain's own ordering system in August 2026. The Traditional Cheese runs $17.19 to $19.19, and specialty pizzas like the Original BBQ Chicken start at $19.69. Third-party menu sites quoting "$10 to $18" averages are stale — the real spread for the same pizza is exactly one dollar top to bottom.
Can two people eat at California Pizza Kitchen for under $20?
Barely, and only by splitting. One Margherita between two people is $16.69 to $18.69 — $8.35 to $9.35 a head — and clears the line pre-tax in all 25 covered cities. The Mac 'N' Cheese ($16.79 to $17.79) splits the same way. Two people each ordering their own main start at $33.58, which is why CPK sat off this site's lists until we priced the split play. Drinks push even a shared pizza to the line, so it's a water-and-share order.
Is one CPK pizza really enough for two people?
It's a light dinner, honestly. Every CPK pizza is a 6-slice thin crust sold as an individual entrée, so splitting one is three slices each — closer to a big lunch than a feast. The upgrade that keeps the math honest: add a $8.49 CPKids pasta to the split pizza and two adults land right at the line in the cheapest tier.
Does California Pizza Kitchen have a happy hour?
Food blogs list one — weekdays 3–6pm with a 7-inch pizza and a draft beer around $9 — but we could not read it off CPK's own site, and the same reports say mall locations are excluded, which describes most of the stores in our covered cities. Treat it as unverified: ask at your store before you plan a visit around it. What we did verify on CPK's own system: menu prices don't need a coupon to work split two ways.
How much are CPK kids meals?
Every CPKids pizza and pasta entrée is $8.49 at most stores — $8.99 in Hawaii and at the Las Vegas Fashion Show store — off the chain's own ordering menu. Two kids eat for $16.98 to $17.98, under the line on their own.
