The Verdict: No — Two People Can't Clear $20 at Chili's
Chili's sells value by the person, not by the pair. The 3 for Me lineup is a per-head bundle in three tiers — $10.99, $14.99, and $16.99 — and every tier includes a starter (chips & salsa, side salad, or soup), a full entrée, and a bottomless non-alcoholic drink. That's a legitimately complete meal for eleven dollars. The problem is arithmetic: the cheapest way for two people to each get a real meal is two base-tier orders, and $10.99 × 2 = $21.98 before tax. There is no two-person bundle, no lunch workaround, and no à la carte build that beats it — Chili's burgers alone start around $12.
We looked for a back door before we pulled the listing. There isn't one that survives contact with a receipt.
| The Order | 2026 Price | For Two | Under $20? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Two base-tier 3 for Me | $10.99 each | The cheapest full meal apiece — starter, entrée, bottomless drink | ✗ $21.98 — over by $1.98 |
| Two mid-tier 3 for Me | $14.99 each | Crispy chicken, bigger burgers | ✗ $29.98 |
| Split one Triple Dipper | $16.99–$19.99 | Three appetizers as a shared dinner — no drinks, no sides | ± The plate alone flirts with $20; one drink tips it |
| The old 2 for $20 / 2 for $25 | — | Shared appetizer + two entrées, born 2009 | ✗ Discontinued — not on the menu |
3 for Me Is Still a Great Deal — Just Not Our Deal
We're not here to dunk on Chili's. Per head, 3 for Me beats almost everything in casual dining — most competitors charge $11 for the entrée alone and then bill you for the drink and the starter. The bottomless drink by itself is a $3-plus line item everywhere else. If you're eating solo, or your budget for two is twenty-two dollars instead of twenty, Chili's is arguably the best sit-down play in this price class. It fails our test by less than the cost of the salsa it gives you for free.
3 for Me — Base Tier
$10.99 per person
Starter (chips & salsa, side salad, or soup) + full entrée + bottomless non-alcoholic drink. Base-tier entrées include the Oldtimer with Cheese, Big Smasher Burger, Secret Sauce Burger, and Chicken Bacon Quesadillas. A complete sit-down meal for eleven bucks — for one person.
Solo diners: go. Pairs: $21.98The Upper Tiers
$14.99 / $16.99 per person
The mid and top tiers add crispy chicken plates, bigger burgers, and steak-and-shrimp territory. Great per-head economics for what's on the plate — and even further from a two-under-$20 outcome. Two top-tier orders run $33.98 before anyone tips.
Good value · wrong direction for twoThe Rise and Quiet Death of 2 for $20
There was a time when Chili's was literally the deal this site is named after. The $20 Dinner for Two — a shared appetizer plus two full entrées — launched in 2009, became one of the most copied promotions in the industry, and defined recession-era casual dining. Over the years it crept to 2 for $25, then quietly disappeared from the menu altogether. Chili's replaced couple-pricing with per-person pricing, and 3 for Me — launched in 2022 — is what stands in its place.
Zombie pages for the old deal still rank in search results, complete with menus and prices. It's been off the menu for years. If you walk in expecting it, you'll be ordering 3 for Me like everyone else — at $21.98 for two.
The base tier is $10.99 at most locations, but Chili's prices by market — some metros run higher. Since $10.99 already puts two people over our line, a pricier market only widens the miss. Check your local menu in the Chili's app before you go.
My Chili's Rewards members get free chips & salsa (or a non-alcoholic drink) at every visit, and the app rotates genuine offers — occasionally including kids-eat-free drops, which is why Chili's still appears on our Kids Eat Free guides. Our two-under-$20 test only counts standing menu prices, though — coupons and app roulette don't qualify anything for a listing.
Why We Pulled Chili's From Our Lists — August 2026
Every card on this site makes one promise: two people eat for under $20 total, priced off the restaurant's own menu. For a long stretch Chili's sat on our index and dozens of city pages on the strength of 3 for Me's per-head math — but per-head math isn't the promise. When we re-ran every national chain against the line in August 2026, Chili's came up $1.98 short of it, so we removed the listing from our main directory and all 92 city pages that carried it.
Every one of those slots was refilled the same week — not with a placeholder, but with a deal that actually clears the line, from a chain we verified has an open location in (or immediately beside) that specific city, checked against the chain's own store locator:
- Applebee's Two $9.99 Really Big Meal Deals — entrée, endless fries, drink — $19.98 for two
- Olive Garden Lunch Duos, Mon–Fri before 3pm — two typically lunch under $20
- Red Robin Big YUMMM Deals from $9.99, bottomless side included
- LongHorn Steakhouse Lunch Plates from $9.99, Mon–Sat 11am–3pm
- Cracker Barrel Early Dinner Deals from $8.99, weekdays 4–6pm
- Panda Express Two Bowls ≈ $19 — the Honolulu answer, where mainland casual chains don't reach
And the door stays open: the moment Chili's publishes any standing combination that feeds two for under $20 — a lunch bundle, a revived 2 for $20, even a base tier at $9.99 — it goes back on the lists the same week. We'd genuinely like that; it was one of the easiest cards on the site to recommend.
