The Verdict: Twice a Week, It Isn't Close
Del Taco started as a walk-up stand Ed Hackbarth and David Jameson opened in Yermo, California on September 16, 1964, out on the old road to Vegas. It took $169 on day one. Sixty-two years later the chain's own locator directory counts 558 US restaurants — the May 2026 press release rounded it to "nearly 600 across 17 states" — and it is still, at heart, a cheap-taco stand with a drive-thru attached.
Which is why the headline here writes itself. Taco Nights is a two-night-a-week standing deal, printed on Del Taco's own specials page with the prices in it: three Regular Tacos for $2.49 on Tuesdays, three Grilled Chicken Tacos for $3.59 on Thursdays. Two people ordering three tacos each spend $4.98 or $7.18 — a quarter to a third of this site's whole line, twice every week. The other five nights, the value menu picks up the slack.

Del Taco prints one line under Taco Nights and it matters: "Price, participation and hours may vary. Check your local store for Taco Nights offer details." That's the chain telling you $2.49 is the advertised number, not a guaranteed one. It also means the deal can be a dinner-hours thing at some stores rather than all day — worth a phone call before you build a Tuesday around it.

Three Regular Tacos for $2.49, one order each, and two people eat six tacos for $4.98. It is the cheapest full sit-down-adjacent meal for two anywhere in our national chains list, and it comes back every seven days. Add a couple of $1 value-menu items and you're still under eight dollars.

Thursday swaps in three Grilled Chicken Tacos for $3.59 — a dollar-ten more per order than Tuesday, and grilled chicken rather than seasoned beef. Two orders is $7.18. If you only get one Del Taco night a week, Tuesday is cheaper and Thursday eats better.

Del Taco relaunched its value tier on May 28, 2026 as the "Get A Lot For What You've Got" menu: over ten items advertised from $1, among them the Value Bean & Cheese Burrito, Snack Taco, Mini Cheddar Quesadilla, Grilled Chicken Snacker, Bean & Cheese Cup, Ranch Crispy Chicken Taco, Chicken Cheddar Rollers, Grilled Chicken Street Taco, 3-Layer Queso Nachos, two-piece mini churros and mini shakes.
The honest footnote is that "starts at $1" is a national headline, not a receipt. When we priced a real store's own ordering menu for our Oxnard guide — the 601 S Ventura Rd location — the Value Bean & Cheese Burrito did ring up at $1.00, but Snack Tacos were $1.29 and Chicken Cheddar Rollers $2.29, with Classic Burritos running 2-for-$7. Two people ate off that menu for $9.58. Still cheap; just not every item at a dollar. Price your own store before you count on a number.
Free Coffee Before 11am — Every Day, With Any Purchase
This one is buried on the rewards page rather than the specials page, and it's the best standing freebie Del Taco has. Join Del Yeah! Rewards — free — and the benefit list reads, in the chain's own words: "Free iced or hot coffee (every day before 11am with purchase)." Not a tier perk, not a limited-time promo. It sits at the base Queso tier and every tier above it, seven days a week.
The practical shape for two: the offer redeems against a rewards account, so if you both want a coffee, you both need an account — it's a 60-second signup each. Pair two free coffees with two items off the $1 value menu and breakfast for two lands around $2 plus tax, which is the cheapest morning on this entire site. Hot or iced, your call.
Signing up is worth it beyond the coffee. Del Taco's rewards page advertises two free Del Tacos for new members (first-time accounts, redeem within 14 days), and a birthday reward — a regular shake with any purchase at the base tiers, any shake or dessert higher up. Points run 8 per dollar at Queso and climb to 12 at Epic. Worth noting the two pages don't agree on the welcome offer: the specials page pitches 20% off your first order instead of the two tacos, so check which one your app actually loads before you plan around it.
Things You'll Read That Aren't Right
Retired. The 20 Under $2 menu was replaced by the "Get A Lot For What You've Got" value menu in May 2026 — which is actually the better deal, since it starts at $1 rather than $2. Any listing still selling you 20 Under $2 is running on old information.
An old price that refuses to die on deal roundups — and one we had on our own Irvine page until this check. The current Taco Nights price is $2.49 for three Regular Tacos on Tuesday, $3.59 for three Grilled Chicken Tacos on Thursday, straight off Del Taco's specials page.
Two menu generations back. Buck & Under gave way to 20 Under $2, which gave way to Get A Lot. The $1 price point is genuinely back on some items — but under a different name, with a different lineup.
Not since December 2025. Jack in the Box bought Del Taco in 2022 and sold it to Yadav Enterprises — already the largest Jack in the Box franchisee in the country — for $115 million, closing December 22, 2025. Worth knowing mainly because ownership changes tend to precede menu and price changes.
Rule of thumb: Taco Nights is chain-published but explicitly variable by store, and the value menu is barely two months old. This page was checked in July 2026.
