The Verdict: Yes — Every Medium Clears the Line
Ed and Margie Imo opened on the corner of Thurman and Shaw in 1964 and more or less invented carry-out St. Louis-style pizza: cracker-thin crust, sweet sauce, and Provel — the processed blend of cheddar, Swiss and provolone that exists almost nowhere outside this metro area and that St. Louisans will defend to the death. Ninety-odd stores later, "the square beyond compare" is still cut into squares rather than wedges.
The pricing is genuinely friendly to two people. A medium 12-inch cheese or build-your-own is $13.70, and the priciest medium on the board — the Deluxe, the Veggie, the All Meat — tops out at $18.85, still under our line. Step up to a large 14-inch cheese at $16.95 and two people have a proper dinner with squares left over. If you'd rather not do pizza at all, every sandwich and every baked pasta is $9.40, so two of anything comes to $18.80.
| The Order | 2026 Price | For Two | Under $20? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Medium 12" cheese or 1-topping | $13.70 | Shared between two, with $6 left over | ✓ Comfortably |
| Large 14" cheese | $16.95 | A full dinner for two with squares to spare | ✓ Comfortably |
| Two sandwiches or baked pastas | $9.40 each | $18.80 — mostaccioli, lasagna, Imo's Extra Special, all one price | ✓ Yes |
| CrunchImo + toasted ravioli | $9.99 + $8.05 | $18.04 — the local order, with the St. Louis appetizer | ✓ Yes |
| Medium Deluxe / Veggie / All Meat | $18.85 | Under the line, but only just, and nothing else fits | ± Barely |
| Large Deluxe (14") | $23.05 | Over — the loaded pies at large size are where it breaks | ✗ Over the line |
The pattern is simple: plain pies and the flat-priced sandwich and pasta board are comfortably under; loaded pizzas at large or extra-large size are where two people go over.
Three Ways Two People Stay Under $20
Large 14" Cheese, Split
$16.95 for two
The most pizza per dollar on the board and the truest version of the thing — thin cracker crust, sweet sauce, Provel, cut in squares. Three dollars under the line, which is enough for an order of Imo Fries at $4.45 if you're feeling reckless.
Any dayTwo Sandwiches or Baked Pastas
$18.80 for two
Everything on both boards is $9.40 — Imo's Extra Special, roast beef, meatball, turkey club, or baked mostaccioli, spaghetti and lasagna. A flat price across an entire menu section is rare and makes the math trivial.
Any dayMedium Pie + Toasted Ravioli
≈ $21.75 — or drop the t-rav for $13.70
Toasted ravioli is a St. Louis invention and Imo's charges $8.05 for eight. Pair it with a medium at $13.70 and you're a couple of dollars over the line — worth knowing rather than discovering at the register. Provel Bites are $8.00 for sixteen if you want the local move instead.

Imo's is franchised and stores price independently. The numbers on this page come from one real store's live ordering menu — Downtown St. Louis on 4th Street — and your neighbourhood store may differ by a dollar or two.
It isn't. Around ninety-five stores, almost entirely in the St. Louis metro on both sides of the Mississippi, plus outposts across Missouri. If you're not from there, you probably haven't seen one.
Not really — it's a processed blend of cheddar, Swiss and provolone, made for this style of pizza, with a low melting point that gives Imo's its particular gooey texture. It's the single most argued-about ingredient in St. Louis.
Imo's in 5 Cities on This Site
We pulled Imo's roster straight from the store data the chain publishes on its own location pages: 95 live stores. Applying our exact-city rule leaves these — St. Louis carries eighteen of them on its own. Each links to that city's full cheap-eats guide.
- Columbia, MO 601 Business Loop 70 W
- Jefferson City, MO 706 Missouri Blvd
- Kansas City, KS 4200 Rainbow Blvd
- Springfield, MO 2 locations
- St. Louis, MO 18 locations citywide
Two notes for accuracy: the Kansas City store at 4200 Rainbow Blvd is on the Kansas side of the line, and the Columbia and Springfield stores here are the Missouri ones — Imo's also has stores in Columbia, Illinois, which is a different town entirely. The dozens of suburban stores — Kirkwood, Clayton, University City, O'Fallon and the rest — aren't listed because we only place a chain where it's inside the city limits.
