Why Texas Roadhouse Isn't a 2-for-$20 Anymore
For years, Texas Roadhouse's Early Dine menu was one of the great quiet answers to "where can two people get a real sit-down dinner for twenty bucks?" In 2021 an Early Dine entrée was $8.99 — two people ate steak dinners with four sides and all the rolls for about $18. That price has crept roughly a dollar a year since, and in 2026 it sits around $12.99 at most stores. Two entrées now land around $26.
| Year | Early Dine Entrée | Dinner for Two | Under $20? |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2021 | $8.99 | About $18 — two full entrées, four sides, free rolls | ✓ Comfortably |
| 2026 | $10.99–$13.99 (most stores ~$12.99) | About $22–$28 — typically ~$26 | ✗ Over the line |
To be clear: this is not a knock on the place. $12.99 for a full-size sirloin with two made-from-scratch sides — plus unlimited fresh-baked rolls with cinnamon butter and a bucket of peanuts — is still one of the better sit-down numbers in casual dining. It just isn't a two-people-for-twenty number anymore, and this site only gets to keep its name if we say so.
Early Dine: Still the Best Door In
Early Dine is a limited menu of roughly 7–11 full-size entrées — not smaller portions — each with two sides and the usual rolls. Depending on location you'll typically see the 6-oz sirloin, country fried sirloin or chicken, pulled pork, grilled BBQ chicken, a half rack of ribs, grilled salmon, and Chicken Critters.
Monday–Thursday, 3–6 PM at most locations — some stores end at 5 PM, and a few add Friday 11 AM–3 PM. It's dine-in only, you have to be seated inside the window, and hours are set store-by-store. One quick call to your location before you drive is worth it.
How Two Still Get Close to $20
If you're set on Roadhouse, two routes keep the check honest:
One Early Dine Entrée + House Salad
≈ $18 for two
One Early Dine entrée (~$12.99) with two sides, plus a $4.99 house salad, split between two — and the unlimited rolls, cinnamon butter, and peanuts do a lot of quiet work here. A real dinner for two on a $20 bill, menu-math speaking.
Mon–Thu, Early Dine windowSplit a Texas Size Combo
One combo, two forks
The combo plates (two proteins, two sides) are genuinely big enough for two lighter appetites, and most run right around or just past $20. Add the free rolls and it's a full meal — no early-bird window required.
Any day, dine-inThat's menu math — tax and tip push any sit-down past the sticker, here and everywhere else on this site.
Family Packs: The Real Numbers
Texas Roadhouse Family Packs are real and reasonably priced — just nowhere near the $29.99 the internet keeps promising. In 2026, expect roughly $40–$55 depending on entrée and location: Chicken Critters, BBQ chicken, and pulled pork packs around $40, beef tips around $45, sirloin around $47, and ribs around $54. Every pack includes the family-size entrée, a family salad, two 16-oz sides, and a dozen rolls with cinnamon butter.
The fine print that matters, which most pages skip: packs are to-go only (you can't order one at a table, and some stores take them by phone only or run them seasonally), and all steaks come cooked medium with no customization. But the per-person math is legitimately good — feeding four works out to about $10–13 a head, which beats the Early Dine per-person price. If that's the mission, our family meal deals page ranks every chain doing it cheaper.
Prices You'll See Online That Aren't Real
Search any Texas Roadhouse deal and the results are dominated by unofficial "menu" sites that contradict each other wildly — one says family packs are $29.99, the next says $42.99–$69.99, most with "Updated 2026" stamped on five-year-old numbers. Here's what to ignore:
That's the March 2020 launch pricing from when the packs debuted, republished endlessly ever since. The real 2026 range is $40–$55 by entrée and location.
Discontinued. If a page still lists it, treat the rest of that page's prices as stale too.
Never a consistent Texas Roadhouse offer — even the aggregator sites quietly admit it in their fine print. (We checked. Believe us, we wanted it to exist.)
Rule of thumb: trust the restaurant's own site, or a page with a verification date on it. This one was checked in July 2026 and gets re-checked when Early Dine creeps again.
